Getting Into Daycare

As we enter Gabe's second week of daycare, we know how lucky we are to have him get a spot in a home care that is close to our house, with a caregiver that we like. This article, entitled Have you got what it takes to get your kid into daycare?, describes Toronto's deplorable childcare situation. While we didn't need to camp out overnight in line, like parents profiled in the article, we did put ourselves on numerous waiting lists, right when Gabe was born, and we also didn't hear back from many of them. Quebec is a lucky province to have a heavily subsidized (parents pay $7 out of the actual $40 cost) daycare program.
