At Gabe's old daycare, there were a few older toddlers who were starting to potty-train, and he came home talking about a potty. So we left one next to our bathtub, and he would occasionally sit on it with a diaper on. While on vacation in Florida, we bought one of those clip-on seats that fit on top of a toilet, and Gabe was very excited by it, but never peed while sitting on it. And at his new daycare, the toddler's bathroom has knee-high miniature toilets for the kids (aged 18 months to two years), but on his daily report card, they've never mentioned Gabe using it.
After bath with Daddy tonight, Gabe insisted he wanted to pee in his potty. All naked and wet, he sat down with a great big smile on his face and began about his business.
Much to our collective surprise, when he got up to inspect his work, we discovered he had not only peed but pooped in his potty!
Eric and I were busy congratulating him on his efforts, but Gabe, on the other hand, was contemplating his output and reached for the bowl, exclaiming with glee:
"CHOCOLATE!"
So cute. So gross. All at the same time.
Back in the old country, I was told you let them run au naturel in the house. This allows them to feel when they need to go. Of course, the first few times you might need to do some clean-up.
