Final Furniture Trip

Our friend "knew of a guy", a relative who ran a children's furniture store. We paid them a visit this weekend. Kid's Interior Design Store is near Hwy 7 and Jane. They carry a lot of nice stuff from College Woodwork and AP Industries. Both make higher-end products. We couldn't decide whether or not to buy anything here and left empty-handed.

I remembered that the Mother Hubbard's Cupboards factory was in the area so we drove over to Dufferin and Finch. We previously visited the Mississauga outlet. Here, they have a showroom and the actual factory where they make the furniture is in an attached warehouse. Flick and I looked around for a while and enjoyed chatting with the staff there. We've been looking for baby's room furniture for three weeks or so, and felt we needed to make a decision. In the end, we bought a 6-drawer tall dresser with hutch in the Bumblebee line. We like the whimsical styling and felt it was worth a premium.

They said it would take 6-8 weeks which puts it right around the time our baby is due. Delivery is about $150. They suggested we borrow a truck to take it ourselves, but it comes fully assembled, and we would still need to bring it up to the second floor.

I'm not too concerned about the mid-range rating Baby Bargains gave this company. All of the furniture is Canadian-made, built with dovetail joins, self-closing drawers, lead-free paints, non-toxic lacquers. The book's major criticism was poor handling of a recall which involved ambiguous instructions in assembling a crib.
